I just took my wife for breakfast here and was left dissapointed. It is the first time I have been since the change of ownership and the price was high but the quality of ingredients was low..

    The good bits:
    1. Cosy decoration (albeit getting a bit tired)
    2. Good Americano
    3. Good poached egg (provided you like it runny which I do)

    The not so good bits:

    1. My wife asked for poached egg and beans on a muffin. Unfortunately it was an aldi bap rather than a breakfast muffin (although the packet did say oven bottom muffins). Staff were quite challenging/dismissive about the existence of a breakfast muffin to the extent that if i didn't buy a pack every week I would have doubted whether they existed.

    2. Beans were the cheapest variety, no real sauce. Surely saving a few pence per serving isn't worth it.

    3. I had the 'Full Welsh breakfast' which was an English breakfast. Either make a proper Welsh breakfast or just call it an English breakfast.

    4. I would expect the ingredients for a Full Breakfast to cost around 30% of the price. Here the price was £6.70 and i would estimate the ingredients cost just over £1.

    5. Sausages were reheated and as it was 9am i would assume they were from the day before.

    6. No choice of butter or margarine for toast just margarine.

My wife swapped her toasted bap for a teacake as she doesn't like runny eggs, the beans were poor and the muffin was a soggy bap. The teacake was okay but we were charged for both.

    Price:

    For £16.35 we had:

    1 black Americano
    1 small orange juice
1 egg and beans muffin (replaced with teacake)
    1 Full 'Welsh' breakfast

If the quality was better I would have been happy with the price but i would say you could get a similar standard for about £10.

I won't be returning here which is a shame as i try to support independent outlets on the high street as far as possible. I was apprehensive about trying this cafe since the ownership change but positive reviews on here persuaded me to give it a go which is why i have decided to put this review on.
